In 1965, Thomas R. McGehee and Frank S. McGehee opened Mac Papers in Jacksonville, Florida. Branch offices were also opened in Atlanta and Miami.
In 1966, additional distribution centers were opened in Tampa, Orlando and Tallahassee. In 1967, the company started Mac Paper Envelope Converters in Jacksonville for the sole purpose of producing quality envelopes for Mac Paper's customers.
In 1971, new offices opened in Birmingham, Montgomery and Columbus, Georgia. In 1975, Mac Papers opened a new, expanded distribution facility in Tampa. In 1977, Greenville, South Carolina became the 10th Mac Papers location.
In 1985, Charlotte and Columbia sales and distribution facilities open.
In 1990, a new executive office building opened in Jacksonville and the Jacksonville distribution facility was expanded. In 1991, the Montgomery distribution facility was relocated and expanded. In 1992, operations in West Palm Beach begin. In 1993, Chattanooga became the first Mac Papers location in Tennessee. In 1994, Jackson became the 15th Mac Papers branch and the first in Mississippi. In 1995, expansion grew into the Mobile, Alabama area and the Birmingham sales and distribution warehouse was relocated to a larger facility. In 1996, expansion into Huntsville, Alabama, Greensboro and Raleigh, North Carolina occurred.
Today, Mac Papers is the largest distributor of printing papers and envelopes in the Southeast.
